KAIJU GAIDEN is the first documentary which assembles various filmmakers who have produced their own films featuring gigantic monsters stomping cities and engaging in battle with one another. Although ranging in time periods, the directors still use traditional special effects techniques unique to the genre. These special effects are called Tokusatsu. In recent years, modern technology has played a huge role in taking these films to the next level. In Kaiju Gaiden, directors share their stories of love for Kaiju, their source of inspiration, and the sometimes unrecognized issues in making a special effects film.
